Surrender Your Animal

We are aware there are times when owners are unable to keep their dog(s) or cat(s). As we are currently full and have a waiting list, we are unable to bring an owner relinquishment into our kennel.  However, we do have several options available that have proved to work for others in your position.  There are a few items that must be addressed before offering these options.  First, the dog must be spayed / neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and tested negative for heartworm or on heartworm preventative.  If and when these items are addressed, we can post the dog on our website with a bio from you. The information we can get is the best way to find the right fit for him/her.  Is the dog inside, outside, or both; crate trained, housebroken, likes/dislikes, not good/good with other dogs, cats, kids or don't know?  Why the dog is looking for another home is extremely helpful: for example, dog is requiring more exercise, or needs a 6' fence.  We need the good, the bad, and the ugly, example: is an extreme chewer.  We would need several pictures of the dog emailed to us for our website.

We also have transportation available if a rescue in another state would be able to foster the dog.  Of course, this may take several weeks just to get these items moving along.  We are all volunteers with work and family obligations who care for a small kennel of rescue dogs and cats as well as foster dogs in our homes.  If we get an inquiry on the dog, the owner must be ready to bring the dog to one of our events, so that the potential adopters can meet the dog in person. It can take months to find the right home for a dog, and we have had several dogs with us for a year before they were adopted.  If you are able to commit to these items as we have, then we are able to assist you.

First and foremost, we do understand that not everyone is able to keep their dog or that a mismatch was done upon selecting a dog, so we are willing to assist.  Because we understand this, those who want to re-home their pet(s) must appreciate the time and money the Ark provides to assist in re-homing pets.  Those who want to re-home their pet(s) must also appreciate The ARK's mission of fostering and kenneling homeless dogs and cats.

If we can be of assistance to you, please email the pictures and bio to arkpets@hotmail.com as soon as possible.  Please fax medical records to 317-203-0722.
